I remember, as a kid, the sound of the meter-man coming to read out utility meter. He had a huge key chain on his waste with what looked like 100’s of keys. You could hear it jingle from down the block. I particularly remember the meter-man because my dog Benji (who was the sweetest people dog ever) would turn crazy and wild to get the meter-man (my dad said Benji was maced by a meter-man as a puppy and desperately wanted revenge).

Breast cancer can be a very serious thing, and in many cases, early detection is key for a successful recovery. Thus, women in America have been told that a yearly mammogram is the best thing to do. But like all things, there are pluses and minuses. However, unfortunately, like many things we are just told what to do without hearing the minuses. Mammograms fall into this category for a couple of reasons.

If you are old enough you can remember when all chicken in the US was basically organic. I can remember when Kentucky Fried Chicken was even good chicken! But then in the late 80’s and early 90’s (along with a name change) the chicken became gelatinous with less meat on the bone and more tendons. The same can be said with the chicken we buy in the store. That is because, as to no surprise, US chicken started to have a ton of man-made and chemical processing and farming techniques imposed on it. Many of these techniques resulted in radically changing the nutritional value of chicken… and its safety!

Though it has been banned twice by the FDA, Aspartame is currently found in over 6,000 product worldwide. Since it is 200 times sweeter than sugar, it is often used in diet soft drinks, low calorie yogurts and other foods and beverages that want to claim, “low calorie” while still offering a sweet flavor. Unfortunately, the product has been linked to severe health issues including brain damage, which will be explained further. For now, let’s look at a brief history of Aspartame.

There are a lot of factors that determine our optimal health. These include hydration, temperature, nutrient profile, and pH. The pH means “potential of hydrogen” and is a measurement of hydrogen ions in a certain solution. The pH scale is a way of telling whether something is acidic, neutral, or alkaline. In your body, a specific balance of acid to alkaline is required.
But why is this required? Our bodies are designed to function within a very narrow pH range, which is around 7.365, making it more alkaline. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14. A pH of higher than 7 is alkaline, a pH less than 7 is acidic, and a pH of 7 is neutral.

Ah collagen. Nature’s botox. Ever since I discovered the importance of it, I’ve been hooked and can’t get enough.

According the CDC (Center for Disease Control) Obesity (yes obesity is a disease) is an all too common disease state for Americans (and for people from countries all over the world). The U.S. obesity rate is more than one-third (36.5 %). For some groups like non-Hispanic blacks the rate is much higher (48.1%) and for Hispanics (42.5%). In Mexico, the world’s most obese nation, 7 in 10 adults are overweight (that’s nearly 70% of the adult population)! There are also economic factors such as the fact that higher income men tend to be more overweight than lower income men, the opposite is true for women with lower income women being more overweight then higher income women.

Though they may look the same, not all pine trees are equal. Such is the case with the Siberian Fir tree (also known as Abies Sibirica). To the Sumerians, whose civilization was a precursor to the modern world yet remains clouded in mystery, the Siberian Fir was a sacred tree. It was viewed as a symbol of power, grandeur and immortality. This is confirmed by writing on clay tablets from about 7,000 years ago.
The reason ancient cultures valued this pine so highly was due to its medicinal and therapeutic properties. Sumerians would make broths, compresses and primitive Band-Aids with the oils and saps from this tree. The anti-bacterial and fungal properties of the Siberian Fir are amazing. In fact, in forests where this tree grows, the air is basically completely free of microbial pathogens.
