Mercury may be a naturally occurring metal but it is a harmful neurotoxin that can cause numerous health issues and even cause death. Mercury can slowly poison our bodies to the point of acute illness. Acute or high exposure to mercury can lead to several symptoms. Let’s take a look at these:

Digestive problems
Did you know that mercury poisoning can produce all sorts of digestive problems? This is especially true for those with amalgam (silver) fillings. Mercury vapor is continuously emitted from dental amalgam fillings, and much of this mercury is absorbed and retained in the body. This mercury mixed with food goes down the digestive tract where it gets combined with hydrochloric acid. In turn, it produces mercuric chloride, which can damage the stomach lining and create ulcers. Additionally, this mercury kills our good bacteria when it reaches our intestinal system. It leads to imbalanced gut flora and other digestive related disorders.
Brain disorders
Many studies show that high exposure to mercury induces changes in the central nervous system, potentially resulting in irritability, fatigue, behavioral changes, tremors, headaches, hearing and cognitive loss, hallucinations, and death.
Children are most susceptible to mercury exposure as it affects the developing brain, causing neurological problems that lead to vision and hearing problems, delays in the development of motor and language skills, lower IQ points, problems with memory and attention deficits.
Muscle and joint pain
Heavy metals such as mercury essentially create a constant state of inflammation leading to muscle and joint pain in particular. Did you know that a recent study has discovered a link between arthritis and dental mercury exposure in adults? The study found that adults with between 4 and 7 mercury dental amalgam filling surfaces had the highest incidence of arthritis.
What you can do to remove mercury
Detoxing from heavy metals is one of the most important, yet most difficult things to do for your health. Did you know that a total of 58 preclinical studies demonstrate the alleviative effect of Spirulina against experimental arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury? It’s a powerful chelating agent.
