There are a lot of sensational articles being passed around the internet about the coronavirus. Indeed, it seems to be a very alarming virus! We are constantly hearing from the media about the numbers of dead and the numbers of cases reported (nowworld-wide, though the vast majority are connected to Wuhan China in some way).
These reported cases are growing daily. But is it as bad as they say? Are all of us at risk? Are healthy people dying from this virus? Afterall, we all know that the common flu is always deadly to the old and unhealthy. But is this different?
When the disease first was reported the initial numbers (total cases and death count) seemed very alarming. The initial numbers looked like the death rate was about 10% (as reported on Jan, 25th with 99 cases and 11 dead by the BBC). These numbers were indeed shocking! But as new reports come in the death rate has become about 2%, which is close to what we see from a normal bad flu (as of 1/29/20 the Chinese reported about 6,000 cases with a 132 deaths).
It needs to be understood, that the sensational numbers the media likes to talk about need to be put into perspective…
they need to also mention who is dying. Are healthy people getting sick and dying?
The answer according to medical professionals is no!
Dr. Len Horovitz (a pulmonary specialist from the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City) says, “Complications and fatalities are associated with older adult men with common diseases such as diabetes and pre-existing pulmonary conditions,”. He added that “this is not SARS.” The death rate with SARS was roughly 10%, according to The Lancet medical journal.
Other Specialists agree, “The majority of fatal cases are elderly and/or have a chronic
disease that would increase their susceptibility to infectious diseases,” Columbia University epidemiologist W. Ian Lipkin told the NYT. As you can see the death rate doesn’t tell the whole story. The story is that your health matters when it comes to your ability to survive outbreaks such as this.
Signs and Symptoms of Coronavirus
According to the WHO, signs and symptoms of NCIP in its initial stages include:
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Dry cough
In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome and kidney failure.
Luckily there are natural ways to fortify your immune system!
One way to fortify immunity is taking an organic mushroom powder that has been used in China itself for thousands of years to improve disease response. Reishi Mushroom!
This “adaptogenic” herb increases immunity, detoxification and helps your body “adapt” to both mental and physical stress due to disease. It is also a powerful detoxifier. Reishi Mushroom is often brewed with tea or coffee but can also be added to soups, broths and smoothies.
Polysaccharides, plant-sterols, beta-glucans, amino-acids and other nutrients all contribute to Reishi’s strong Immune support. It is also a very effective anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal agent.
